Softly Bend the Bough

No sign of life no message at all can it be that simple, is it all so plain
missed the phone, and when I tried to re-call there was no number at all
grieving for the voice and laughter, clever ideas, was it you my love will you call again?
not looking for the ever after, do you have the courage to make the call

Closure is the hardest undertaking, when things said were so misunderstood
though the devil had his way all right, some things will remain forever ours
and I don't know how to sever the invisible ties to all that was good
so be gentle with what remains, like the wind that softly bends the boughs.
