Jealously Guard

door killea

At every corner hindrance
a sadness fills my being
shoulders sag under burdens
blinded, refrain from seeing
as time wears down the dark
tears of anger well, not fall
there begins the magical spark
a knowing, to overcome it all
no matter how hard outsiders
try to dislodge, pull us apart
with charm and smiles
yet overtly blatant, tart
covetous in their action
with a similar reaction marred
protective of what we have
I stand to jealously guard
when uncertainty grips
squeezing the pump
every time the journey
hits an unexpected bump
the knowing kicks in
finally the days are past
to the serenity of our cottage
on the road again, to you at last
