Sparrows

door killea

On the terrace of the beach café
in the warm Autumn glow
the sea so calm as never before
an iridescent blue show
in the distance a pool of gold
a gift from the afternoon sun
sweet sparrows share my apple pie
you hand-feed the bravest one

your eyes so sad, barely smile
perfect ambience mantles
a deep prevalent turmoil
you neither speak, nor complain
we feel and know
days are not always the same
and as you know mine,
I know your pain

we leave a plate filled
with crumbs of your woes
to be set upon by voracious
ever hungry sparrows
in silence we amble
along the promenade
a day so dazzling
your thoughts in the shade

the golden pond
in the distance, brilliant
home in each other
calm, resilient
