Empty space
High up in the tree
if the light is just right
in summer's sun you may see
a shadow amongst the leaves
in winter, he rests in empty space
between the branches
wispy webs, glistening lace
all he feels is the tie of love
carved are his and her name
in the trunk of his chosen prison
he waits to glimpse his beloved again
his heart died yet his soul lives on
when she comes every season
tenderly touching their initials
time to leave, he would reason
a tear would meander down
he just cannot move on
maybe next time she comes
he'll sing the farewell song…
