Desolation
She dreams of him now that he is gone
imagines she hears the beloved old song
but it's just a memory-filled yearning
all things that could have, did go wrong
in the morning she wakes in a cold bed
her body shivers for the warm embrace
drags herself out for the day ahead
wrenching sadness she would have to face
to the mirror she prays to a blurry image
she plays the music her eyes closed tight
let the tears stay inside, let the pain abide
she'll feel stronger later, much later tonight
too much, too soon, too hard, too bare
a little helper from the medicine chest
to see a little clearer through teary mist
his face goes blank, she had done her best
as the unseen sun sets the cloudiest day
she remembers all that was right and good
rain splatters on the window pain
what went wrong and never should
she dreams of him now that he is gone…
