Collecting shells
Saw the beauty in a broken shell
I found you on the shore
took you with me,
like the orphans I did before
the shell was not empty
just injured I saw
held you high, gently, slowly
your strength to restore
wisps of stories of oceans you'd crossed
you would tell me in the night
held you to my ear to hear the sea
listened to your deepest plight
and as your shell renewed itself
you discovered the I in you too
a lost ego found its character
to which you will be true
now I wonder if I shouldn't
throw you back into the sea
to continue your own journey
let your soul swim free
if your shell should break once more
and it was meant to be
I'll find you on the shore again
as you return to me…
