Between the shadows



Through shadows I slink
in the dark of each night
which hides the shades
under my sleepless eyes
a vestige of your presence
when I search the skies
for stars you collected
and laid at my feet
a story, so bold, conceptual,
how very Victorian of you
taking a lock of my hair
a pillowcase harbours your smell
yet I am intact from head to toe
as I meander through streets,
there is nought left to give or take
no more promises to make and break
nothing at all except a lingering
throb, an annoying, pesky ache
when birds begin to sing
a predawn orchestrated song,
I tell the night, stars, and shadows
a sweet so long…
