Divorce
When she threw the word into the room, the echo was a mighty roar
twenty years and more disappeared instantaneously out the front door
mad and mean, his language obscene, he tries to grind her to the floor
an end, for a new beginning, the final scene in soap opera number four
escalating words of anger, frustrated , looking for help from above
his mind ticking over, how he can best destroy the one he claims to love
civilized behaviour forgotten in a flash, he threatens to stop the flow of cash
he'd like to, but dares not, to give her a mighty good thrash
she sits silently watching and listening to the man, hell bent
knowing he is angry, hurting with disbelief, needing to vent
he blames her more than ever before, wanting to know where she went
all those nights, with her lovers - for her they were heaven sent
she lets it go, lets it flow, too late for any discourse
silently stands her ground, with new strength and impenetrable force
no turning back, no regrets, there is nothing he says, that she will endorse
the word is out, her relief is palpable, headstrong on course for another divorce
