Deadline

My deadline was up
today they wanted me to relent
with threats and pressure to agree
broken, I still could not consent

taking on an international corporation
I see a fool in the mirror, I know
usual capitulation expected
I gave them an emphatic NO!

I feel no pride, just reprieve
although a bloody battle was won
the war is by no means over
it has only just begun

no end to ploys to frighten me
with lies and hidden disgraces
their daunting long arm pointing at me
white-collar crime has many faces

alone I stand to take the heat
what's ahead I'll give it my best shot
there's now a file on a huge pile
