Apart from some of my dearest friends

you were the only one who ever said
you were proud of me
apart from some of my sweet lovers
you were the only one
who said you adored me
apart from all my husbands
you were the only one
who understood me
apart from everyone else
you were the only one
whom I ever loved so deep
apart from everyone else
you were the only one
who treated me so cheap
now we're apart
every day anew I listen
to the breaking of my heart
nothing is breaking
since we are apart
except my soul cracked for its mate
apart from my soul, heart and body
we each carry on hurting apart
it's like the beginning of a piece of art
a picture distorted like a Picasso
painted by an insane genius
people look at me saying she's falling apart
I tell them it's just the art, its just art
by an artist who paints me falling apart
each section alone, apart
